ETTRICK, VA (December 14, 2019) - The Virginia State University men's basketball team gave a 98-61 upset to the Shaw University Bears. The victory moves the Trojans to a 7-4 overall record.

FIRST HALF
After numerous missed shots on both sides, the Bears opened the game with shots from the perimeter. Andrew Corum stopped the Bears run with a tip-in to put the Trojans on the board. Walter Williams followed suite with a 3-pointer, but the Bears would soon respond with the same.

At the first charged timeout of the game, the Trojans trailed, 12-7.

VSU worked to jump ahead securing necessary rebounds. Francis "BJ" Fitzgerald gave the Trojans their first lead of the game, 17-16, with consecutive perimeter shots.

Halil Parks kept the run going with a jumper, followed by a layup by Corum. Making it a team effort, Vedder gained two in the paint.

Finding their groove, VSU continued to extend their lead. Armond Griebe found comfort in the paint with back to back shots.

At the final charged timeout of the half, the Trojans held a 31-22 lead.

Despite the Bears attempt to regain control, the Trojans steady defense gave them room for a 37-30 lead going into halftime.

SECOND HALF
Lual Daniel Rahama opened the half with a shot in the paint. After back and forth action on the court from both teams, a tip-in by Corum gave VSU a double-digit lead. Extending the Trojans lead, Antwan Miles made a back to back appearance at the basket, followed by two shots at the line.

Staying consistent, a put back by Corum gave the Trojans a 53-34 lead at the first charged timeout of the final half.

Although Shaw attempted to bounce back, VSU took advantage of gaps in the Bears defensive to gain necessary shots.

Jarron Santos moved the Trojans up with a shot from behind the arc, giving VSU a 61-44 lead. Before the second charged timeout, Fitzgerald secured a 3-pointer for a 20 point VSU lead.
