SHIPPENSBURG, PA (November 8, 2019)- The Virginia State University men's basketball secured a season opener win with a 63-49 victory over East Stroudsburg University to tipoff the PSAC v. CIAA Conference Challenge.
The victory starts the VSU Trojans with a 1-0 season record, while the ESU Warriors are 0-1 on the season.
First Half
After a turnover and missed shots on both side to open the contest,
Andrew Corum put VSU on the board with a shot in the paint. The lead did not last long as the Warriors battled back to control the game. The Trojans would not stay down for long, as
Jarron Santos secured a shot from behind the arc to tie the half, 11-all. VSU worked to extend the scoring gap, wrapping up the half with a score of 26-20.
VSU paced the game by securing 18 bench points, giving them an edge over ESU.
Second Half
Despite allowing the ESU Warriors to collect 2 layups to begin the second half, VSU went on the 6-0 run to grasp a 34-24 lead over their PSAC opponent. Securing numerous runs, the Trojans inched their way to a double-digit lead, ultimately gaining the 63-49 victory.
The half ruled in favor of the Trojans with 8 of their 12 second chance points being made in the 2
nd half. VSU also dominated with 18 of their 24 points in the paint being made during the half.
Leaders
Lual Daniel Rahama took control of court for the contest with a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Jarron Santos was not too far behind with 12 points, the highest points secured in the game.

The Trojans will take on the challenge host, the Raiders of Shippensburg University on November 9 for day 2 of the PSAC v. CIAA Conference Challenge. Tip-off is set for 8pm.
