ETTRICK, VA (November 23, 2019) – The Virginia State University Trojans men's basketball team secured a CIAA conference win over the Claflin University Panthers with a final score of 82-69.
The victory moves the Trojans to a 4-3 overall record, 1-0 in the conference, while the Panthers fall to a 1-4 overall record, 0-1 in the CIAA.
First Half
VSU did not waste any time getting on the board with a shot from behind the arc by
Walter Williams seconds into the game. The Trojans maximized their shooting skills in the half, giving them an edge over the Panthers. After maintaining a double-digit lead, VSU rounded out the half with a score of 40-30 over Claflin.
Second Half
The Panthers attempted to bounce back, pressing on both ends of the court. Despite the intensity of the game, the Trojans remained focused to hold strong to their lead. After an eventful half, VSU took the 82-69 win.
Leaders
Francis "BJ" Fitzgerald led the Trojans for his third consecutive game with 16 points. Also scoring in double digits was
Armond Griebe and William Veddar with 12 points each. Griebe also controlled the Trojans recoveries with 7 rebounds.
Up Next
The Trojans will travel to Raleigh, NC to take on the Bears of Shaw University on December 2. Tip-off is set for 8pm.
