Trojans Take a Non-Conference Loss to Golden Bulls

CHARLOTTE, NC (November 21, 2019)- The Virginia State University Trojans men's basketball team took a non-conference loss to the Johnson C. Smith University Golden Bulls with a final score of 84-75.
The loss moves the Trojans to a 3-3 overall record, while the Golden Bulls are now 3-1 on the season.

First Half
Taking an early lead, the Trojans controlled the opening minutes of the half. As the contest progressed, the Golden Bulls closed the scoring gap, tying the game twice before halftime. With 8:22 left in the opening half, the lead change ruled in favor of JCSU. VSU worked to stay in the game, but missed shots and turnover left them trailing 38-36 at halftime.

Second Half
Regaining their momentum in the second half, the Trojans worked to close the scoring gap and take the lead. In the books, VSU's efforts were apparent in bench points (24-12), second chance points (10-5) and points in the paint (20-14). Unfortunately, several missed shots and turnovers put the Trojans in a scoring deficit for the remainder of the contest.

Although VSU tried to battle back in final minutes, they ultimately took an 84-75 loss to the JCSU Golden Bulls in the non-conference matchup.

Leaders
Francis "BJ" Fitzgerald led the Trojans for his second consecutive game with 18 points. Also scoring in double digits was Walter Williams with 11 points and Antwan Miles with 10 points. Andrew Corum controlled the Trojans recoveries with 9 rebounds.
