ETTRICK, VA (October 14, 2019) - The VSU Trojans volleyball team secured a homecoming week win over the Lions of Lincoln University. The battle of the true orange and blue ended in a quick 3 set sweep (25-14, 25-14, 25-15).

The victory moved the Trojans to an 8-7 overall record, 6-2 in the conference, while the Lions fell to a 1-11 overall record, 1-6 in the conference.

The opening 2 sets mimicked each other as the Trojans held the Lions to only 14 points.

Although LUPA earned the first point of set 1, the Trojans grasped the next 5 points to take the lead, in which they would hold strong to. The Lions managed to gain points in set 1 off of several VSU errors moving them into a double digit score. Taking as much a 10 point lead, the Trojans stayed consistent to take the 25-14 set 1 victory.

Set 2 saw several runs by VSU as they worked to take the 25-14 victory. The Lions took a 2-1 led to open the set, but the Trojans came back with a 4-0 run to take a 5-2 lead. VSU would follow up with a 6-0 run to extend the scoring gap 11-4. After the Lions gained their 14^th point, the Trojans went on their final run of the set, 6-0, to secure the win.

LUPA attempted to bounce back in set 3, staying within points of taking the lead. VSU kicked their momentum into high gear with a 10-0 run, bringing the score to 19-9.  Although the Lions gained additional points off of Trojan errors, the home team sealed the deal with a 25-15 set 3 win to take the overall game.

Jodorrian Taylor controlled the court with 10 kills, while Emma Quarles kept the plays alive with 27 assists.

Despite LUPA having a slight edge in blocks (3-2), VSU led in all of the other comparison categories to include points (41-19), kills (31-9), aces (8-7), assists (30-7) and digs (35-20).

The Trojans will travel to Bowie, MD to take in the Bulldogs of Bowie State University on October 17. The first serve is set for 6pm.

As the season progresses, the Trojans have their sights set on the 2019 CIAA Championships in Salem, VA on November 21 and 23.
