ETTRICK, VA (September 9, 2018)- The Virginia State University Trojans volleyball team split the final day of the CIAA Round-up with a 3-0 win over the Broncos of Fayetteville State University and a tough 3-0 loss to the Bears of Shaw University.
The Trojans collected 3 victorious sets over the Broncos to begin Day 2 of the CIAA Round-up. VSU took set 1 with a quick 25-13 win. FSU attempted to rally back in set 2 after holding a 14-10 lead, but VSU bounced back capitalizing off of Bronco errors to take the 25-20 set victory. The Trojans kept their momentum as they overpowered the FSU for a 25-11 set 3 victory to win the overall game.
Tiara Ramey took charge of the game with 12 kills, followed by Jailyn Ivey with 9 and Kennedi Cannon with 7. Tallying aces for the Trojans were Bria Anderson and Jasmine Jones with 3, while Kennedi Cannon chipped in 2 aces. Bria Anderson made her way through the game with 30 assists while Hailey Heyward secured 2 blocks.
Trojan Nation filled the arena in support of the VSU volleyball team as they faced the Shaw Bears.
Despite taking a 3-set loss (25-19, 25-19, 25-22), VSU stayed focused and remained in close scoring range with the Bears.
Kennedi Cannon and Jailyn Ivey led the way for the Trojans with 8 kills each while Myia Jones chipped in 4. Cannon also collected 3 aces followed by Ambria McBride with 2 and Hailey Heyward with a single ace.
The Trojans currently hold a 9-4 overall record, 3-1 in the CIAA.
VSU will return to action on September 13, as they host the Bulldogs of Bowie State University at the VSU Multipurpose Center. The first serve is set for 6pm.
