WINSTON-SALEM, NC- The Virginia State University Trojan volleyball team secured a 2-1 record at the CIAA Round-up hosted by Winston-Salem State University on September 22-23.
 VSU kicked off the first day of the round-up with a 3-2 victory over the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University. The Trojans battled hard in sets 1 and 2, but were not able to take the wins, falling 27-25 and 25-23. VSU rallied back for the final 3 sets (25-18, 27-25, 15-6), taking the victories and the game. Â
Jailyn Ivey and Tiara Ramey took the lead for the Trojans, collecting 16 kills each. Kennedi Cannon was not too far behind with 14 kills. Ivey, Ramey and Jasmine Jones each tallied 2 aces, while Ivey, Hailey Heyward, and Bria Anderson collected 2 blocks each.
The Trojans opened day 2 of the round-up with a quick 3-set (25-15, 25-12, 25-23) victory over the Blue Bears of Livingstone College.
Ambria McBride took control of the court with 11 kills followed by Myia Jones with 9 kills, 5 blocks, and 2 aces. Also tallying aces for VSU was Kennedi Cannon with 2.
Despite falling in a 5-set (22-25, 25-21, 25-20, 19-25, 10-15) challenge against the host WSSU in their final round-up contest, the Trojans secured stellar stats. Leading the way for the VSU was Tiara Ramey with 23 kills, a season single game high. Also collecting high marks on the court was Bria Anderson with 39 assists and Jasmine Jones with 26 digs.
After a weekend of conference play, the Trojans move to a 12-5 overall record, 6-2 in the conference.
VSU will return to action on September 25 for a home matchup against the Bulldogs of Bowie State University. The first serve is set for 6pm at the VSU Multipurpose Center.
