MOUNT OLIVE, NC- The Virginia State University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams participated in their final meet of the season, the Mount Olive Final Qualifier, on May 13 in hopes of moving up the ranks for the upcoming NCAA Championship on May 24-26.

Collectively, the Trojans collected a top 10 finish in 11 of the 12 events they competed in.

MEN'S RESULTS
Rookie Allen Blair remained consistent in the 200m with a 2nd place time of 20.82. The quartet of Dar'keem Gray, Allen Blair, Steven Murdock, and Stephen Anderson collected a 3rd place 4x100 time of 40.81. The group improved their time by 14 seconds, which gave them a 2nd place regional spot. In the 4x400, Steven Murdock, Tyron Evans, Allen Blair, Andre Jackson finished 7th with a time of 3:14.38.

In the men's field events, Emmanuel Oguntoye collected a 7th place triple jump range of 47'9" while Keith Barbour and Allen Blair finished in 6th and 8th place respectively in the long jump event with a range of 22'3.75" and 21'6.75".

WOMEN'S RESULTS
On the track, the quartet of Zainab Bangura, Christina Adlam, Ebonee Byrd, Niema Riley collected a 3rd place 4x100 time of 47.73.

Competing in the throw events, Jeia Gilliam secured a 2nd place shot put range of 46'4.25". In the discus throw, Gilliam placed 3rd with a measurement of 166'3" and placed 7th in javelin with a range of 122'11".

Leaping 5'3.25" in the high jump event, Jade Jordan represented VSU with a 4th place finish.

UP NEXT
The Mount Olive Final Qualifier worked in the Trojans favor as they moved up the ranks and stayed consistent in numerous events. VSU will travel to Charlotte, NC for the 2018 NCAA DII Outdoor Track and Field Championship, hosted by Johnson C. Smith University.
