ETTRICK, VA (May 11, 2018)- After the VSU men's and women's outdoor track and field teams each secured a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) second place finish, the Trojans return to the road to participate in the Mount Olive Final Qualifier on Sunday, May 13.

The event kicks off at 1pm in Mount Olive, NC at the Ray McDonald, Sr. Track and Field/Lacrosse Complex.

Competing alongside numerous teams, the Trojan look to enhance their national rankings before the NCAA DII Outdoor Track and Field Championship on May 24-26 in Charlotte, NC.

MEN'S EVENTS
VSU looks to have representation in the men's long jump, triple jump, 200M, 4x100 and 4x400 events.
Representing the Trojans in the long jump are
Allen Blair and
Keith Barbour. Currently in the NCAA Atlantic Region Blair is ranked no. 1 with a leap of 24'1.5" while Barbour is ranked 10
th with a leap of 23'0" in the long jump. Blair, taking to the track in the 200m, is currently ranked 2
nd in the Atlantic Region with a time of 21.00.
In the triple jump event,
Emmanuel Oguntoye is ranked 6
th with a range of 48'6.75".
The quartet of Dar'Keem Gray,
Allen Blair,
Steven Murdock, and Stephan Anderson look to dominate the 4x100 event. Currently the Trojans are regionally ranked 2nd with a time of 40.95. In the 4x400,
Steven Murdock,
Tyron Evans,
Allen Blair,
Andre Jackson will represent VSU at the Mount Olive Final Qualifier. Regionally in the 4x400, the Trojans are ranked 2nd  with a time of 3:12.81.
Overall, the VSU men are ranked 5
th in the NCAA DII Atlantic Region.

WOMEN'S EVENTS
The Trojans have student-athletes competing in the women's shot put, discus, javelin, high jump, 100M and 4x100 events.

NCAA automatic qualifier
Jeia Gilliam will be representing the Trojans in the throw events. On a national level, Gilliam is ranked 3
rd in the discus throw with a range of 176'8". Regionally, she is no. 4 in shot put with a range of 46'9.5", no. 1 in the discus throw with a range of 176'8" and 7
th in javelin with a measure of 142'10".

Jade Jordan, who is currently tied for 1
st in the region with a leap of 5'8.75", will represent VSU in the high jump event at the Mount Olive Final Qualifier.

On the track,
Zainab Bangura looks to move up the ranks in the 100M dash. She currently is ranked 28th in the region with a time of 12.34.

In the women's 4x100 relay
Zainab Bangura,
Christina Adlam,
Ebonee Byrd and
Niema Riley will compete for the Trojans. In the Atlantic region, VSU is ranked 7
th in the 4x100 relay with a time of 47.24.
