ETTRICK, Va. (February 8, 2018) – The Virginia State University men's and women's basketball teams will host the Hawks of Chowan University (CU) at the VSU Multipurpose Center, on Saturday, Feb. 10. The women's game will tipoff at 2:00 p.m., followed by the men's game at 4:00 p.m.

The Women's Game: The Trojans (19-3, 9-3 CIAA, 3-3 North) suffered a 62-52 loss to the Panthers of Virginia Union University on Feb. 7, at the VSU Multipurpose Center in their Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) match-up. Senior guard Alexis Smith posted 17 points, three rebounds, and seven assists to lead the way for the Trojans.
Virginia State shot 30 percent from the field, and 56 percent from the free throw line. Senior, guard Keyana Brown, was VSU's second-leading scorer, contributing 14 points. Junior, forward Chrisanna Green, tallied seven points and eight total rebounds, while Dionna Marcus contributed seven points, six rebounds and one steal.
Chowan University (17-4, 9-2 CIAA, 5-1 North) thwarted the upset bid by rival, Elizabeth City State, in a CIAA Northern Division match-up on Feb.7, 71-69. Dhyamond Crenshaw and Jada Lee led the team with 16 points each. Chantel Roberts registered her sixth double-double of the season, with 15 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Mariah Coker chipped in with 13 points. Chowan had 20 assists on 25 made baskets, as Jada Lee tallied seven and Mariah Coker dished out five. Lee added seven rebounds and five steals on the night.
The Trojans suffered a (61-65) loss to Chowan University on the road on Jan. 20, 2018.
The Men's Game: The Trojans (19-3, 9-3 CIAA, 5-1 North) secured a 60-57 victory over the Panthers of Virginia Union University (VUU) at the VSU Multipurpose Center on Feb. 7. Richard Granberry finished with 16 points on 6-of-11 shots from the field, to go along with eight rebounds, and three blocks. Cyonte Melvin posted a 14-point performance, to go with six rebounds and two steals. Brandon Holley finished the contest, contributing 9 points.
CU's men (8-12, 3-8 CIAA, 2-4 North) fell to the Elizabeth City State Vikings, 71-68, on Feb. 7, in CU's Helms Center. Trevis Buckhanon had a perfect night from the floor, going 3-3 and 8-8 from the charity stripe for 14 points. Buckhanon added eight rebounds on the night. Robert Grubbs tallied 14 points, hitting four triples.
Demetrius Sanders and Dino Muminovic notched double-figure scoring outings, with 12 and 11 points each.
The Trojans secured a (64-61) victory over the Hawks on the road on Jan. 20, 2018.
