RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 17, 2018)– The Virginia State University men's basketball team secured its second victory over St. Augustine's University 70-51 in a non-conference men's basketball matchup between two CIAA schools at Emery Gymnasium on Saturday.

Virginia State University senior guard Cyonte Melvin led the way for the Trojans with 15 points and eight rebounds. Cedric Wiggins was VSU's second leading scorer with adding 13 points and two rebounds. VSU improves to 2-2 on the year, while the Falcons fall to 2-1 overall.
 
KEY STATS

- VSU shot 37.5 percent from the field; St. Augustine's shot 31.9 percent
- Virginia hit eight triples (32 percent); St. Augustine's knocked down three threes on 16.7 percent shooting
- The Trojans were 14-for-29 at the free throw line while the Falcons were 18-for-30
- VSU held a 52-37 rebounding advantage; the Falcons had 14 turnovers to VSU's 10

- Cyonte Melvin had 15 points and eight rebounds
- Cedric Wiggins  added 13 points and two boards
- Jalen Jackson, Jahmere Howze, Armond Griebe and Lual Rahama  all contributed eight points each

- Tyre Gathright was four-for-13 from the field, zero-for-two from three-point range and four-for-six at the free throw line
- Gathright added six rebounds, one assist and a steal
- Jalen Gaddy  had ninepoints on one-of-seven shooting
- Miguel Brown contributed three points on three-of-four shooting from the free throw line
- Otis Hill Jr. had three points, one rebound and one assist
 
UP NEXT

The Trojans will return home on Tuesday, November 20^th as they host Cheyney University. Tip-off is slated 6 p.m. at the VSU Multipurpose Center.
