ETTRICK, Va. (November 20, 2018) – Virginia State University senior forward
Armond Griebe secured his first double-double of the season with 13 points and 14 rebounds tonight to secure a 73-50 victory over Cheyney University. VSU improves to 3-2 on the year, while the Wolves fall to 1-5 overall.
KEY STATS
- VSU shot 41.8 percent from the field; Cheyney shot 31 percent
- Virginia hit five triples (19.2 percent); Cheyney knocked down five threes on 32 percent shooting
- The Trojans were 23-for-28 at the free throw line while the Bulldogs were 11-for-18
- VSU held a 37-36 rebounding advantage; each team had 16 turnovers

- A Cliff St. Juste layup gave Cheyney a 7-4 lead five minutes in
- Vedder capped a 7-0 run to give VSU a 16-9 advantage
- Griebe pushed the lead to eight at the 6:27 mark; a Griebe dunk made it 23-15

Jahmere Howze free throws gave VSU a 30-15 lead with two minutes left in the half
- Cheyney added its final basket of the half on a layup at the 00:26 second mark
- VSU took at 31-22 lead at the half
SECOND HALF
- Howze's layup gave Virginia State a six-point lead five minutes into the second half
- A Jalen Branch pair of free throws cut the Trojans lead 67-48 at the 3:50 mark
- A Miles layup gave the Trojans a 72-48 edge with 2:26 remaining
- VSU hit a free throws and a basket in the final seven seconds to make the final margin 73-50

The Trojans will return to action on Saturday, November 24
th as they travel to Wheeling, West Virginia to face Wheeling Jesuit University. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m. at Alma Grace McDonough Center.
