RICHMOND, VA (October 8, 2018)- The Virginia State University Trojans volleyball team fell to the Virginia Union University Panthers in a 4-set (19-25, 25-22, 21-25, 20-25) Northern Division matchup.
Dominating the court in kills was VSU's Jailyn Ivey with 16 kills, followed by Tiara Ramey with 10 kills. Hailey Heyward tallied 3 blocks while Bria Anderson stepped in with 33 assists.
Despite the Panthers taking a quick lead to open set 1, the Trojans gained momentum tying the score 9-9. As the Panthers jumped ahead to regain the  lead, VSU worked to close the scoring gap but could not take the set with a 25-19 loss.
The Trojans focus during set 2 was to maintain control as they worked to rally back from the previous set. Despite several lead changes, the final score ruled in favor of VSU with a 25-22 set 2 win.
Although VSU battled for the lead during the final 2 sets, VUU had an edge over the Trojans for the 25-21 and 25-20 set wins.
The loss moves the Trojans to a 15-7 overall record, 9-4 in the CIAA and 4-2 in the Northern Division.
VSU will return to action on October 10 for a home matchup against the Cavaliers of UVA-Wise. The first serve is set for 6pm at the VSU Multipurpose Center.
