BOWIE, MD (October 4, 2018) – The Virginia State University Trojans volleyball team secured a 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-16) road victory over the Bulldogs of Bowie State University. The CIAA Northern Division win moves to Trojans to a 15-6 overall record, 9-3 in the conference, and 4-1 in the Northern Division.
Jailyn Ivey dominated the match with 11 kills the Trojans, while Tiara Ramey and Ambria McBride were evenly matched with 5 aces each.
Set 1 seemed to rule in favor of the Bulldogs as they took an early 10-4 lead. Kills and BSU errors gave the Trojans enough edge to tie the set 16-16. A kill by Ramey gave VSU their first lead of the night and helped extend them to a 25-19 set 1 win.
The Trojans took control of the court with a quick 14-3 lead to open set 2. Despite a Bulldogs timeout and numerous subs, VSU maintained their scoring gap for a speedy 25-15 set 2 win.
The home team attempted to rally back in set 3 as they worked to close the scoring gap. The visiting Trojans remained focused as they held strong to their lead. Collecting 7 of her 11 kills in set 3, Ivey helped lift the Trojans to their 25-16 set 3 victory for the overall match win.
VSU will return to action on October 8 for a road matchup against their I-95 rivals, the Panthers of Virginia Union University. The first serve is set for 6pm in Richmond, VA.
