WHEELING, WV (October 27, 2018)- The Virginia State University volleyball team fell short during the Wheeling Jesuit Tri-Match with a loss to Concord University and the host Wheeling Jesuit University.
In their first contest of the day, the Trojans fell to Concord, 3-1 (21-25, 18-25, 25-22, 20-25). The teams battled for the lead in set 1, tying the score 10 times. After tying the score 21-21 with a Trojans kill, Concord took charge of the final plays. Despite losing set 2 with a score of 25-18, VSU regained focus and held the lead in set 3 to take the 25-22 win. Unfortunately, Concord rallied back to take the set 4 win and the match.
Jailyn Ivey control the game with 21 kills, followed by Tiara Ramey with 14 kills. Ramey also collected 5 aces to accompany Myia Jones' 4 blocks.
In their second contest of the day, VSU faced the Tri-Match host, Wheeling Jesuit University. After facing tough competition, the Trojans fell in 3 sets (14-25, 19-25, 15-25).
Ivey was evenly matched with their opponents, collecting 11 kills. Kennedi Cannon was not too far behind chipping in 7 kills.
The double loss moves the Trojans to and overall 18-10 record.
VSU will return to action on October 29 with a CIAA road contest against the Hawks of Chowan University. The first serve is set for 6pm.
