Trojans Volleyball Secures Victory on Senior Day

ETTRICK, VA (October 21, 2018)-The Virginia State University Trojans volleyball team not only celebrated a quick 3-set (25-11, 25-6, 25-5) victory over the Lincoln University Lions, but they honored their 3 seniors for the Trojan last regular season home volleyball match.

Seniors Hailey Heyward, Myia Jones and Tiara Ramey were escorted by their families through a tunnel of VSU Woo Woo Cheerleaders to receive well deserved trinkets and acknowledgement from their coach and teammates.

The Senior Day festivities led way to 3 quick sets against the Lincoln Lions. VSU jumped ahead with a speedy 7-1 lead to open set 1. Despite a single Trojan error, giving the Lions a point, VSU continued to roll over their competition with an extended 11-2 lead. The Trojans dominance on the court earned them a 25-11 set victory.

Sets 2 and 3 undoubtedly ruled in favor of the Trojans with an extend 10-0 run in set 2 and a 14-0 run in set 3. VSU held Lincoln to under 10 points in the final sets taking a 25-6 and 25-5 set 2 and 3 victories for the overall win.

Heyward and Ramey took charge of the kills for VSU with 12 and 11 respectively. Jailyn Ivey stepped up with 8 aces while Bria Anderson chipped in with 30 assists.

The conference contest moves VSU to a 18-7 overall record, 11-4 in the CIAA; while the Lincoln Lions fall to a 1-18 overall record, 1-13 in the conference.

VSU will return to action on October 27 to face Concord University and Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, WV.

The CIAA Volleyball Championship is quickly approaching with quarterfinals set for November 6 at the top seeds home court and the semifinals and finals on November 9-10 in Salem, VA. The Trojans look to stay focused in hopes of making a championship appearance.
