LINCOLN, PA (October 1, 2018)-The Virginia State University Trojan volleyball team captures a 3-0 (25-8, 27-25, 25-18) win over the Lions of Lincoln University in a CIAA Northern Division road contest.
Myia Jones and Jailyn Ivey were evenly matched with 6 kills each for the Trojans. Jones also collected 3 blocks, while Zaria Hill tallied 3 aces.
Despite earning the first point of the set, the Lions quickly fell behind giving the VSU Trojans a strong lead. Capitalizing off of several Lion errors, the Trojans were able to take the 25-8 set 1 win.
Set 2 showed endurance from both teams as they bounced back from an extended scoring gap. VSU was down 7-1 to start the set, but managed to jump ahead securing a 14-9 lead. A small lead change did not keep the Trojans down as they battled to gain and maintain control. After tying the game 25-25, back to back aces from Zaria Hill lifted the Trojans to a 27-25 win.
The final set ruled in favor of VSU as they held the lead to take the 25-18 win.
Holding strong to the No.1 spot in the CIAA volleyball standings, the Trojans move to a 14-6 overall record, 8- 3 in the conference.
VSU will return to action on October 4 for a road matchup against the Bulldogs of Bowie State University. The first serve is set for 6pm in Bowie, MD.
