ETTRICK, Va. (January 23, 2018) – The Virginia State University men's and women's basketball teams will host the Vikings and Lady Vikings of Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) at the VSU Multipurpose Center on Wednesday, Jan. 24. The women's game will tipoff at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.

The Women's Game: The Trojans (15-2, 5-2 CIAA, 0-2 North) have lost their last two games, including a 56-65 loss at Virginia Union on January 13. Virginia State suffered a tough 61-65 loss at Chowan University on Jan. 20. Senior
Alexis Smith led the Trojans with 22 points and seven rebounds. Junior
Chrisanna Green continued to clean up the glass with another double-double, scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds. Senior
Keyana Brown chipped in eight points, while senior
Mia Fitts finished with six points.
The Lady Vikings (7-9, 1-4 CIAA, 0-2 North) suffered a tough 57-49 loss to Lincoln University (PA) on Jan. 20 in the R. L. Vaughan Center in its second Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Northern Division matchup.
Last season, the Trojans took a (53-47, 58-55) victory over the Lady Vikings on the road and at home on Jan. 21, 2017 and Feb. 11, 2017.
The Men's Game: The Trojans (16-1, 6-1 CIAA, 2-0 North) have won the last two CIAA conference games against Virginia Union (82-72) on Jan. 14 and Chowan University (64-61) on Jan. 20. Senior
Richard Granberry led the way for the Trojans posting 17 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore
Andrew Corum finished with 1 2 points and seven rebounds while senior
Trey Brown chipped in with 10 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Senior
Waymond Wright finished the contest with eight points, one rebound, three assists, and one steal. Junior
Cyonte Melvin also helped the Trojans with seven points.
ECSU men (6-7, 1-4 CIAA, 0-2 North) fell in double-overtime to Lincoln University (PA), 82-78 in the R. L. Vaughan Center on Jan. 20. Junior guard
Shyheid Petteway led ECSU for the third straight game, tallying 15 points off 4-of-15 shooting from the floor and 7-of-7 from behind the candy stripe and added four boards. Hobbs recorded 14 points; while freshman forward
Shykeef Daniels recorded 14 points to round out the Viking scorers in double-figures.
Last season, the Trojans took a (77-71, 81-42) victory over the Vikings on the road and at home on Jan. 21, 2017 and Feb. 11, 2017.
