Box Score DURHAM, NC- The Virginia State University baseball team dropped to the North Carolina Central University Eagles on April 6 in a single 9 inning game, with a final score of 14-4.
Junior
Julian White (Yorktown, VA) and seniors
David Markins (Colonial Heights, VA),
Jamison Griffin (Newport News, VA) and
Stephen Brown (McBee, SC), each gave the Trojans a run.
The Eagles started the game off with a homerun at the bottom of the 1
st inning, bringing home 3 runners. Brown started out strong at the top of the 2
nd inning, hitting a homer into left field. At the conclusion of the 2
nd inning, the Trojans trained, 3-1.
Second to bat for the Trojans at the top of the 3
rd inning was Markins. Fueling off of the momentum from his teammate in the previous inning, Markins smacked a homer into left field, securing 2 RBI's. After hitting a single and advancing to second off of an error on the Eagles center fielder, Griffin ultimately ran home, giving VSU a 4-3 lead. NCCU would answer back, mimicking the Trojans 3 runs at the bottom of the 3
rd inning.
Scoreless for the remainder of the game, the Eagles gained 8 additional runs, giving the Trojan a 14-4 loss.
The Trojans will be on the road in Raleigh, NC on April 9-10 for a weekend double doubleheader against the St. Augustine's University Falcons. The first pitch is set for 1pm on both days.
