Wilson, N.C. (May 1, 2025)- The Virginia State University baseball team started the NSAC tournament off with a 11-6 win over John Melvin (FL). In game two they would drop a game to John Melvin (LA), 12-5.

GAME 1 VSU 11 JMFL 6 

• John Melvin scored in the bottom of the first after a pass ball.  

• The Trojans answered with five in the top of the second. Norman Jackson hit a one out double, then Hector Rivera scored Jackson after hitting a triple. Matthew May hit a sac fly to bring in Rivera. Marquis Smith then single, followed by Thomas Ealey getting on via the error. Jaden Guthrie then doubled, TJ McGowan singled and Jaquan Tucker singled to bring in runs 

• Preston Branzelle kept John Melvin off the board for the next three innings while VSU added four more runs in the fourth. McGowan and Tucker hit-back-to-back doubles. Victor Johnson then singled, and Rivera singled as well 

• JMFL added five runs over the next two innings to make it a 9-6 game 

• Thomas Ealey added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh to bring in Jaron Ward and Rivera 

• McGowan then pitched the last inning to record his first save of the season 

• With the win the Trojans played John Melvin (LA) at 6:30 p.m. 

GAME 2 VSU 5 JMLA 12 

• John Melvin (LA) scored two runs in the first two innings 

• The Trojans would get on the board in the second with a Rivera home run and in the fourth with a Tucker two run homer 

• JMLA would answer in the bottom half of the inning by scoring six runs and would continue to add runs 

The Trojans will now move into the loser's bracket and will take on Lighthouse Christian College on Friday May 2 at 12:30 p.m.
