HIGH POINT, NC – The VSU Trojans men's outdoor track and field team took several first place finishes at the High Point University Vertklasse on April 1-2.
Sophomore
Dajawn Williams, Senior
Justin Williams and the 4x1 relay quartet of
Lawrence Harris,
Travis Henderson,
Steven Murdock and
Avontae Ferguson provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships this weekend at the VertKlasse Meeting (High Point, NC).
Williams cleared the height of 2.04m (6' 8.25") in the Group A High Jump which was a personal best for him and has him currently ranked 2nd in the CIAA and tied for 15th in the Nation.
Justin Williams tied his seasons best with a second place finish of 14.40 seconds in the 110 Hurdles. This ranks him 2nd in the CIAA and 10th in the Nation.
The men's 4x1 relay finished 1st in the competition and currently sits 3rd in the Nation with a time of 40.80. They are ahead of their relay time from this point last year.
"This was a big meet for our team. We had several seasons best and personal best performances today. Our six men that have put their names on the NCAA list have worked extremely hard to get to this point and are only paving the way for many more on the team who have pushed each and every day at practice. In the individual 100m dash, we had 6 out of 7 guys who had seasons best marks so we are definitely moving in the right direction"
The Trojans have been off to a great start for their outdoor season. They will be back in action on April 9 at the George Mason Invite in Fairfax, VA.
