Box Score RICHMOND, Va.- The VSU Trojans men's basketball team conquered the Virginia Union University Panthers, 77-56, in the Battle of I-95 on December 6. This is the first conference game of the season for both teams.
The Trojans are currently 5-2 overall as the season chips away.
VSU shot 48.4 percent (31-64) from the field, 41.2 percent (7-17) from behind the arc and 66.7 percent (8-12) from the free throw line.
Rookie
Walter Williams (Richmond, VA) lead the Trojans with 15 points while senior
Javon Moore (Fairfax, VA) was close behind with 14 points and led the team with 8 rebounds. Junior
Elijah Moore (Yorktown, VA) rounded out the double digit scoring with 11 points.
In the first half, the crowd remained on the edge of their seats as both teams were evenly matched. The game had a total of seven ties in the first half. With a little over 2 minutes left in the half, the Trojans began to pull away after a shot from behind the arc by
Walter Williams.
Javon Moore gave VSU their final 2 buckets of the half, bringing the score to 36-31.
The Trojans returned to the court in the second half eager to take the victory. Capitalizing off of turnovers, VSU made several good shots in the paint to extend the lead in the first 3 minutes of the second half.

Kevin Williams (Franklinton, NC) set the tone for the Trojans to pull away with double digit scoring. With the VSU up, 49-38, rookie
Cyonte Melvin (Hampton, VA) secured a layup on a fast break to put more pressure on the Panthers with a score of 51-38. The Trojans worked together to power pass VUU with a final 21 point lead of 77-56.
This is the fourth consecutive victory for the VSU men's basketball team over the VUU Panthers.
VSU will take the court against St. Augustine's University in Raleigh, NC on Tuesday, December 15. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
