DURHAM, NC- The Virginia State University Baseball team took a double loss against the North Carolina Central University Eagles on April 2.
In game one, The Trojans kept the lead for the first five of nine innings. After a tough fight, the Trojans lost with a final score of 17-15.
Junior
Tyler Coleman (Chesterfield, VA) gave Virginia State six RBI's, while junior
Nicholas Christopher (Dinwiddie, VA) came in with four and junior
Joshua Markins (Colonial Heights, VA) earned three. Teammates sophomore
Colton Gunn (Dinwiddie, VA) and sophomore
Zachery Jordan each contributed an RBI for the Trojans.
Of the five Trojans who took the mound during game one, Gunn stepped up to give the Eagles two strike outs.
Joshua Markins was the last pitcher of game one to lead the Trojan to the loss.
Virginia State took the second loss of the day to the NC Central with a final score of 12-6.
All six of the runs earned by the Trojans were made in the third inning.
Junior

Percy Evans (Cary, NC), and brothers junior Joshua and freshman
David Markins (Colonial Heights, VA) all brought in and RBI during game two.
Sophomore
Tashaun Taylor (Richmond, VA) pitched the first half of the game, giving NC Central three strike outs. Senior
Rodell Stewart (Dinwiddie, VA) came in as relief to finish the game and gave two strike outs.
The Trojans have a current 19-14 overall record, 12-7 conference.
The team will head to Newport News, VA to take on the Apprentice School for a single game on April 4 at 2:00 pm.
