Box Score BROOKLYN, N.Y.- The Virginia State University Trojans secured a 72-61 win over the Virginia Union University Panthers at the 2014 Big Apple Classic on December 7 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. This is the first time that the Trojans defeated the Panthers at the Big Apple Classic since the event began in 2006.

Senior center
Alphonso Leary (Norfolk, Va.) led VSU in scoring with 15 points while senior guard
Lamar Kearse contributed 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
The Trojans scored 15 points off of turnovers by VUU and earned 48 points in the paint.
Never taking the lead during the game, the Panthers only got within 8 points of the Trojans.
VSU shot 51.9 percent (27-52) from the field, 13.3 percent (2--15) from behind the arc and 16.2 percent (16-21) from the free throw line.
After capturing their fifth straight win, VSU is currently 6-2 on the season.
The Trojans will take to the court on Saturday, December 13 to face Cheyney at 3:30 p.m. in Daniel Gymnasium.
