Box Score ETTRICK, Va.- The VSU Trojan men's basketball team defeated the Cheyney University Wolves with a score of 84-80 on December 13.
The win gives the Trojans a 7-2 overall record with their sixth straight victory.
VSU shot 56.3 percent (27-48) from the field, 56.3 percent (9-16) from behind the arc and 65.6 percent (21-32) from the free throw line.
Senior
Lamar Kearse led the Trojans with 22 points and four rebounds. Following close behind in scoring were senior
Alphonso Leary and sophomore
Elijah Moore with 17 points each. Trojan newcomer, senior
Tyrece Little secured his first double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Kearse and Moore took the lead for the Trojans in the first half, collectively scoring 22 of the 35 points. The half had balanced scoring as both teams made an effort to drive to the basket. A shot from behind the arc by Kease put VSU in the lead at the half, 35-33.
In the second half, Leary took charge collecting 15 of his 17 points. The Trojans played the court well as the Wolves began to add more pressure with 5 minutes left in regulation.
The Trojans were up by three with 3 seconds left on the clock and Kearse at the foul line. Kearse secured 1-1 at the line, giving the Trojans the additional point and the win.
The Trojans will play the University of Charleston on Tuesday, December 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Daniel Gymnasium.
