Waymond Wright joined the Virginia State Men's Basketball program as an assistant coach in 2022-23 and the 2023-24 season will mark his second season as an assistant.
Coach Wright is a Trojan alum and three-year member (2015-2018) of the men's basketball team. Wright started 52 of the 80 games he appeared in for Virginia State, averaging career totals of nearly six points and 3.6 assists per game. In his time as a student-athlete, Wright was a part of three NCAA Atlantic Region Tournament teams and two NCAA Regionals Semifinals appearances, two CIAA Northern Division titles, and a CIAA Basketball Tournament Conference Championship in 2015-16.
Wright earned his Bachelor's of Science in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation in 2018 from Virginia State and his master's in sports management in 2021 from VSU. Coach Wright was a graduate assistant for the Trojans from 2018 to 2021.
Wright is a native of Raleigh, NC and prior to arriving at VSU, he was a Junior College All-American at Wake Technical Community College after averaging 16.6 points, 6.7 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game as a freshman in 2013-14.
