PETERSBURG, Va. (Sept. 16, 2026) – The Virginia State University women's soccer team fell 3-0 to Emory & Henry on Wednesday afternoon.
The Trojans and Wasps battled through a scoreless first half, with Virginia State goalkeeper Ava Patterson making four saves to keep the match tied at the break. VSU recorded one shot during the opening 45 minutes.
Emory & Henry broke through in the 55th minute when Turtle DeLillio found the back of the net off an assist from Caoimhe Tighe, giving the Wasps a 1-0 advantage.
Virginia State continued to battle, with Jada Savage hitting the post in the 67th minute as the Trojans looked to find an equalizer. VSU goalkeeper Tianna Roberts also made several saves during the second half to keep the Trojans within striking distance.
Emory & Henry added a second goal in the 75th minute when Siena Booth converted a penalty kick. The Wasps then added another goal with 10 seconds remaining in regulation to secure the 3-0 victory.
Roberts finished the match with five saves, while Patterson recorded four saves in the first half. Virginia State finished with three total shots, including two in the second half.
