Ettrick, Va. --The Virginia State men's basketball team got a 12-point showing from the bench, but fell 65-37 to the Virginia Union Panthers on the road Saturday.
Amare Wimbush led the Trojans (10-9, 3-4) with eight points and four blocks. Jacob Cooper added four points, six assists and two steals and William Hopkins chipped in as well with 12 points and two steals.
Virginia State's defense held Virginia Union to only 40 percent shooting from the field.

Virginia State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 29-19 heading into halftime.
Virginia Union kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 33-21 advantage before Virginia State went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Hopkins' jumper, to shrink the deficit to 33-26 with 15:30 to go in the contest. Virginia Union responded and outscored the Trojans the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 65-37. Virginia State capitalized on eight Virginia Union turnovers in the period, collecting eight points off those turnovers.
