Volleyball Drops Final Two Invitational Games

Ettrick, Va (Sept. 6, 2025) – The Virginia State University volleyball team dropped their final two games of the VSU Opening Invitational to Bloomsburg Univeristy and to University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown.

In the morning match, VSU went toe-to-toe with Bloomsburg in the opening set , to Bloomsburg Univiersty and Univeristybefore falling 3–0 (23–25, 14–25, 12–25). Gracie Darville powered the attack with 7 kills and 2 block assists for 9 total points, while Kyra Marciniak chipped in 4 kills and 2 service aces. Amaya Cooper added an efficient 4 kills on nine swings, and Peyton Reese directed the offense with 13 assists. Defensively, Kellee Craig anchored the back row with 8 digs, while De'Mya Robinson made her presence felt at the net with 2 solo blocks and a block assist.

The Trojans returned to the court in the evening to face Pitt.-Johnstown, taking a set off the Mountain Cats before falling 3–1 (19–25, 25–23, 15–25, 21–25). VSU's second set win was fueled by a balanced attack and relentless defense. Morgan Green led the way with 7 kills, 5 service aces, and 6 block assists, finishing with a team-high 16 points. Skylar Johnson and Cooper each tallied 7 kills, with Johnson also digging 15 balls to showcase her versatility. Darville added another 7 kills and 11 digs, while Sienna Owens contributed 4 kills and 5 block assists. The setting tandem of Reese (17 assists) and Leila Jackson (12 assists, 2 aces) kept the offense moving, and Craig was once again a defensive force with a match-high 22 digs.

The team will be back in action next weekend as they travel to the UNC Pembroke Invitational on September 12-13.
