Trojan Women Battle Hard in Road Contest Against Barton

Wilson, N.C. (Sept. 13, 2025) – The Virginia State University women's soccer team showed grit and persistence in a tough road matchup at Barton College, falling 3-0 but producing several strong individual performances.

The Trojans (0-3) created offensive chances throughout the match, firing 11 total shots, including four from senior forward Morgan Parris, who led all VSU attackers and placed one on target. Loryn Sturgis and Danica Carter also tested the Barton defense, combining for three shots, with Carter forcing a late second half save.

Freshman midfielder Carra Fitzgerald made her presence felt in the middle of the field, taking a first-half attempt and helping anchor the midfield alongside Skye Dixon, who generated two corner kicks and added a shot of her own. Off the bench, Ava Stewart contributed offensively with an attempt in the 37th minute.

In goal, Alana Martin turned in a busy performance, making four saves across the 90 minutes, including key stops in both halves to keep the Trojans within reach. Defenders AJ Clarke, Gabrielle Franklin, and Aurelia Williams logged valuable minutes in the back line, helping limit Barton's attack despite heavy pressure.

The Trojans will be back in action Wednesday September 17 against Eastern Mennonite University inside Rogers Stadium.
