MILTON, Fla. (May 1, 2026) – The Virginia State baseball team wrapped up its Florida trip with a pair of losses, falling to Lighthouse Christian on April 30 before dropping a close contest to Atlantis University on May 1.
In the first game, the Trojans were unable to recover from an early deficit as Lighthouse Christian took control with a strong offensive showing. Defensive miscues proved costly for Virginia State, allowing the opposition to extend its lead through the middle innings. Despite the setback, Norman Jackson drove in the team's lone run, while Samuel Young accounted for the only score after reaching base in the third inning.
On the mound, Preston Branzelle battled through the start, with DeCarlos Nora III providing relief to close out the game.
Virginia State responded with a more competitive effort in game two, but came up just short in a 4-3 loss to Atlantis University.
After falling behind early, the Trojans showed resilience at the plate. In the fifth inning, Jaquan Tucker delivered a key two-run hit to even the score and shift momentum in favor of Virginia State. However, Atlantis answered in the bottom half of the inning, capitalizing on a scoring opportunity to regain the lead for good.
The Trojans continued to apply pressure late, putting runners on base in the final innings, but were unable to find the tying run.
Gavin Stevens turned in a complete-game effort on the mound, keeping Virginia State within striking distance throughout the contest.
