Ettrick, Va. (Apr. 7, 2025)- The Virginia State University Women's Tennis (7-6) team competed well in their match against Coppin State University (2-10) but ultimately dropped the match 4-1.
Both doubles lost 6-1 to give the Eagles an early advantage. The singles were competitive. In the ones Ginger Johnson lost both sets 6-2. In the two Makensie Pago dropped set one 6-2 and then set two 6-1. Ashleigh Charles played in the three and dropped set one 6-1 and then competed well in the second set having a 4-3 lead at one point but lost the set 6-4.
Geena Williams won in the sixth as CSU only had five players for VSU one point. Prior to the game both Ginger Johnson and Ashleigh Charles were honored on Senior Day.
Virginia State will travel to Hampton University (7-7) on Wednesday April 9 for a 5 pm match.
