Virginia State Softball Triumphs in Thrilling Match Against Bluefield State 

Bluefield, WV* — Virginia State University's softball team clinched a thrilling 5-3 victory over Bstate SB.


Game 1 VSU 5 vs BLUEFIELD ST 3 

The Trojans set the pace with three runs in the first inning, featuring Hailey Darrington's single and Jaya Diggs-Hagwood's triple. Chloe Garland and Alaijah Pratt drove in additional runs, establishing a strong lead.

Virginia State added two more runs in the sixth, thanks to Garland and Darrington, while Reina Washington contributed a key double.
Despite a late rally from Bluefield State SB, who scored three runs total, Virginia State's defense held firm for the win.

Game 2 VSU 5 vs BLUEFIELD ST 0

Virginia State kicked things off with Hailey Darrington reaching first on an error, but the momentum faltered with quick outs by Lauren Parham and Jaya Diggs-Hagwood. Shamya Hankins walked to get on base, but the team couldn't capitalize, leaving two runners stranded. Then, the game erupted! Makailah Harmon singled and stole second, followed by Darrington's hit. Thanks to defensive errors by Bluefield State SB, Virginia State scored four runs, igniting the crowd!

The defense shined, preventing Bluefield State SB from scoring, even as Jackie Sandy got on base. Virginia State struck again with Lauren Parham scoring on Nyla Brown's single, while their defense kept Bluefield State SB off the board. Though they couldn't add more runs, Darrington and Parham kept the pressure on. Alaijah Pratt sealed the deal on the mound, shutting down Bluefield State SB and securing the win!

Virginia State's strategic plays and strong defense led them to a thrilling victory. 

The Trojans will return home for a double header against Elizabeth City State on April 11, at 12 & 2 pm.
