Ettrick, Va. (Apr. 10, 2025) -- Virginia State University has been accepted into the National College Athlete Honor Society as the first division 2 school in Virginia and 15th overall to have a Chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma (XAΣ), which recognizes student-athletes from accredited four-year institution who are members of an association or organization that promotes academic achievement and varsity level athletics competition while holding commitment to the principles of integrity, sportsmanship, and overall development of their student-athletes.
Chi Alpha Sigma was founded in 1996 by then DePauw University head football coach Nick Mourouzis. His goal was to provide outstanding student-athletes with an opportunity to become connected within a fraternal association that aligns their educational and athletic successes for a lifetime.
In order to be inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, a student-athlete must achieve junior or senior academic standing at their institution, complete four full time semesters or six quarters of college course work after high school, as determined by the certifying institution, and must have achieved a minimum cumulative grade-point average of a 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale).
Lorraine Cone will serve as advisor for Virginia State's chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma. Virginia State will hold its first induction ceremony during the Fall 2025 semester

Official Statement from Vice President of Inter Collegiate Athletics Tiffani-Dawn B. Sykes,
I'm proud to bring a chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma to VSU. We expect our student-athletes to be leaders in the classroom and in competition, and now we have a way to recognize those who are truly committed to achieving greatness in both areas. This gives us a meaningful opportunity to celebrate those who are excelling on the field and in the classroom.
