Mrs. Cone joined the VSU Athletics Department staff in the Fall of 2011 as the primary Academic Advisor.
Mrs. Cone has eagerly and energetically been at work to see to it that VSU’s student-athletes are “academically fit.” She emphasizes the use of good character, strong ethics, and strong core values as she advises student-athletes. Cone felt the need to continue to give back to student-athletes at her Alma Mater, Virginia State University. She has been an athletic academic advisor for the past eight years. During this time the student-athletes have excelled both athletically and academically.
Prior to VSU Athletics, Cone served 40 years teaching in the Chesterfield County Public Schools, at Thomas Dale High School. She taught Business and Career Education. She retired as a “master teacher” after her tenure.
Mrs. Cone is a Virginia State University graduate. She graduated with a B.S. and M.S. Ed. in Business Education. She is a Suffolk, Virginia native, but has made Petersburg her home since her graduation from VSU, then Virginia State College. Alongside being a devoted member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Cone is a long-time member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Delta Omega Chapter.
She has a daughter, Devon, also a VSU alumnus; and a grandson, Michael.
