Lincoln University, PA - The Virginia State softball team traveled to Lincoln University for a thrilling doubleheader match up.

Game 1: VSU 9 vs LU 8

The game kicked off with Virginia State taking an early lead in the top of the 1st inning. Shamaya Hankins drove in the first run with a single to right center, setting the tone for an intense match up. Lincoln (Pa.) struggled initially but came roaring back in the bottom of the 3rd inning, capitalizing on errors and scoring 5 runs to take the lead 5-2. J. Cathey's 2-RBI double was a highlight of this rally.

Virginia State wasn't about to back down. In the top of the 4th inning, they mounted a comeback, scoring 4 runs to regain the lead 6-5. Hailey Darrington and Maisie Goodwin were instrumental in this surge, with key hits and aggressive base running.

The game continued to be a nail-biter, with Virginia State extending their lead to 9-6 in the top of the 5th inning. Mylia Knight, Alaijah Pratt, and Maisie Goodwin each contributed with crucial hits, pushing their team ahead. Lincoln (Pa.) fought back in the bottom of the 6th inning, with I. Richardso hitting a 2-run homer to narrow the gap to 9-8.

As the game entered the 7th inning, both teams were determined to secure the win. Virginia State managed to hold onto their lead, despite Lincoln (Pa.)'s relentless efforts. The game was filled with dramatic plays, errors, and standout performances, making it an unforgettable contest.

Game 2: VSU 4 vs LU 7

The game started with a bang as Virginia State took an early lead in the top of the 1st inning. Hailey Darrington grounded out, but Lauren Parham and Jaya Diggs-Hagwood both singled, setting the stage for Shamya Hankins, who delivered an RBI single. Mylia Knight followed with a double, driving in two more runs, and Chole Garland's sacrifice fly brought the score to 3-0.

Lincoln (Pa.) responded in the bottom of the 2nd inning, taking advantage of errors to score two unearned runs, narrowing the gap to 3-2. Virginia State added another run in the top of the 3rd inning, thanks to an error by the catcher, making it 4-2.

The game remained tight until the bottom of the 5th inning, when Lincoln (Pa.) mounted a comeback. A. Sherman and I. Richardso each contributed with key hits, and Richardso's aggressive base running helped Lincoln (Pa.) take the lead 6-4. They extended their lead to 7-4 in the bottom of the 6th inning with a triple by L. Jex.

Virginia State tried to rally in the top of the 7th inning, but Lincoln (Pa.) held on to their lead, securing a 7-4 victory.
 

The next match up for the Trojans will be on April 5, 2025, in a doubleheader against Bluefield State University at 12 & 2 pm.
