Elkins, W. Va. (Mar. 16, 2025)- The Virginia State University Women's Lacrosse team traveled to Davis & Elkins to begin a two-game road trip and dropped the match 13-11 after outscoring Davis & Elkins 5-0 in the fourth period.Â
VSU only needed 56 seconds to score after causing a Senators turnover and finishing the clear Kayla Carroll-Williams found the back of the net. D&E quickly answered with a goal of their own. Then Aniyah White netted a goal at 6:36 but was answered 19 seconds later by the Senators and another with four minutes left in the opening stanza. The second period saw the Trojans score twice within a minute of the period starting to make it 4-3. The goals came courtesy of Unique Anthony and White. However, over the final 12 minutes of the first half D&E would outscore 5-1 to go into halftime with a three-goal lead, 8-5.Â
Virginia State scored quick to open the second half with White scoring after causing a turnover after the draw control. Then the Senators would score the last five goals of the quarter going into the final period up 13-6. In the fourth period Carea Tuck scored two quick goals in two minutes, one of the free positions and after an Ilyana Jones save, Rylie Banks picked up the ground ball and found Tuck streaking down the field. Carroll-Williams continued the Trojan run scoring with 12 and a half minutes left to cut the deficit to four, 13-9. Four minutes later Nakiyah Jones got in on the action after a free position attempt was rewarded to Tuck, she passed the ball to Jones who faked out the goalie for a goal making it 13-10. The Senators defense would stiffen up and hold the Trojans off the board until a 1:47 left on the clock when Carroll-Williams scored making it 13-11.Â
VSU now drops to 2-6 overall and will travel to Dominican University New York next Sunday March 23 at 1 pm.Â
