Ettrick, Va. (Mar. 11, 2025)- The Virginia State University Women's Lacrosse team put up 21 goals, which is a new program record, in a 21-7 win over St. Thomas Aquinas.
In the first quarter the Trojans scored three goals from Aniyah White, Kayla Carroll-Williams and Sophia Toye. In total the Trojans had 11 shots in the opening quarter forcing the Spartans goalkeeper to be active early. Virginia State scored nine goals in the second quarter. It only took 31 seconds into the second period for Rylie Banks to find the back of the net. Morgan Terry scored her first collegiate goal at the 10-minute mark in a man up situation. STAC tried to swing momentum in their favor scoring twice within 40 seconds. In within two minutes Kayla Carroll-Williams scored a natural hat trick (three straight goals ina row) making it 8-2 with five minutes left till halftime. Carea Tuck, Banks, Aniyah White and Carroll-Williams all scored before halftime to make it 12-3.
To open the second half Bryelle Small scored her first career goal 41 seconds into the third quarter. Then for seven straight minutes a running clock was in effect until STAC scored, but with 6:31 in the third Carroll-Williams restarted the running clock. From there Unique Anthony and Sophia Toye expanded the Trojan lead to 12 goals, 16-4 going into the fourth quarter. White would win the opening draw control in the fourth and run down the sideline and fire off a shot to score once again. Another first collegiate goal came from Naima Courtney with 13:30 left in the stanza. The Spartans scored two more goals and J'Daria Thompson, White and Nakiyah Jones scored for VSU.
Virginia State forced 30 turnovers with Noel Johnson-Montoya lead the team with four caused turnovers. Carroll-Williams is the new program leader with six goals in a single game beating the previous record of five held by many players. The Trojans will start a two game road trip first to Davis & Elkins Sunday March 16 at 1 pm then March 23 at Dominican University New York.
