Virginia State Trojans Extend Winning Streak with Victory Over ECSU
Your Virginia State Trojans (18-5) face off against Elizabeth City State University (8-13) for their second matchup of the season.
The Trojans started the game off with a shot clock violation. However, they quickly get back on track. It was a back-and-forth game through the first five minutes of the first quarter, by the first timeout, VSU trailed ECSU by just two points. Following the timeout, 
Anii Harris had a chance to tie the game at the line with two free throws. She sank one of two, and the Trojans trailed by one point. The Trojans were down three points with one second to play in the first quarter some good work on the boards gave 
Carmen Kweti a chance to make it a one-point game. Kweti goes one for two at the line, and VSU goes into the second quarter down by a basket.
 
The bank was opened at the top of the key for 
Carmen Kweti as she hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 17 apiece. 
Anii Harris gets a timely steal, and a few possessions later, she makes a mid-range jumper to put her team up by one. After ECSU's Jada Nowlin splits a pair of free throws, 
Anii Harris hits another middy to tie the game. 
Amesha Miller hits a jumper from the top of the key with 24 seconds left in the first half to put the Trojans up by two. A timely steal by 
Amesha Miller with time winding down didn't result in points, and VSU would go into the half with a two-point lead.
 
Amesha Miller gets an easy bucket in the paint to start the 3
rd quarter and put the Trojans up by four. A 5-2 run helps Virginia State gain a seven-point lead. The Trojans are starting to gain some momentum. 
Skylar White knocks down one of two free throws at the line, putting her team up by nine. 
Carmen Kweti outworks everyone on the boards and gets the chance for an and-1 play. She doesn't complete it, but 
Tiyanna James comes down next possession and sinks a three-pointer, ballooning Virginia State's lead to 16. VSU can hold for the last shot of the quarter. 
Anii Harris drives to the basket and completes a layup they go into the 4
th up by 17 points.
 
Anii Harris continues her strong play another layup puts her at 17 points for the game. 
Mihjae Hayes gets her sixth assist on a nice no-look pass, leading to an easy layup for 
Carmen Kweti. The Trojans are feeling good, a turnaround jumper by 
Anii Harris gives her 19 points and makes the lead 19 for Virginia State. With a little over four minutes left in regulation, the Trojans lead by 13 points. Coming out of the timeout, the coach brings her bench to finish the game. After a slow start, VSU will walk away with a comfortable win. VSU 71 ESCU 59.
 
Anii Harris led all scorers with 21, 
Mihjae Hayes led in helpers with six, and 
Carmen Kweti led in rebounds with 9.
The Trojans play their next game on Wednesday at 5:30 against Bowie State University in their second to last game of the season before the tournament.
