Virginia State Delivers an Impressive Performance in Victory Over Elizabeth City State

The Trojans have a four-point lead going into the first timeout. Out of the timeout, Kendall Bynum sinks both free throw shots, making it a six-point game. Tim Uzochuwku has the chance to put his team up nine with a pair of free throws. He gets them both. VSU forces a shot clock violation right out of the timeout, and Clint Wright Jr. sinks a midrange jumper. The lead is 11 with that made shot; there's 6:24 left to play in the first half. The Vikings pull within seven points with two minutes to go in the first half. Tim Uzochuwku makes the Trojan's lead 10 with 44 seconds to go. VSU closes the half out with free throws. Jacob Cooper gets both to fall, and the Trojans go up 12 points to end the half.

A board and a dish by Daryl Mackey put Virginia State up by 17. Jacob Cooper knocks down a three out of the time out, ballooning the lead to 21 points. Momentum swings in favor of the Vikings. ECSU's Jaquantae Harris makes a three-pointer, and the Trojan's lead is cut to 12 with just under 12 minutes to go in regulation. Some hustle by Tim Uzochuwku prevents a fastbreak by the Vikings and keeps it a 12-point game. A made middy by Dericko Williams out of the timeout cuts VSU's lead to nine. Dajour Rucker draws a timely charge and gives the Trojans possession up nine. Elizabeth's Kam Jonhson drains a three, cutting the lead to five points with six minutes left to play in the game. After an array of timeouts, Jacob Cooper is at the line shooting two. He makes both free throws, and the Trojans have a seven-point lead. Kendall Bynum sinks a three off of the missed free throw attempt by ECSU. A layup by Jacob Cooper gives him 18 points for the game and the Trojans a double-digit lead with four minutes left to play. A three by Clint Wright Jr. from the corner gives VSU some more cushion. Their lead is 13, with over two minutes to go. The Vikings won't go away easily, they trap and get the steal, cutting the lead to nine with over a minute to play. More pressure leads to another turnover by VSU, directly resulting in an and-1 play for ECSU and cutting the lead to five. Jayson Harris gets a rebound off a missed three-point attempt, and Jacob Cooper gets fouled. He makes both free throws and gives his team an eight-point lead with over a minute to play in regulation. Jayson Harris throws down what feels like a game-sealing dunk with under a minute left. Jacob Cooper is back at the line and calmly drains two more free throws. Despite some scary moments, VSU will walk away with a win. Final score: VSU 80, ECSU 70.
