Ettrick, VA --The Virginia State volleyball team got the job done in straight sets (25-18, 25-10, 25-19) to take down the Virginia Union Panthers Monday at home at Multipurpose Center.
The victory boosted the Trojans' record to 11-9 overall and 10-2 in CIAA action.
The Trojans offense was paced by Amaya Cooper, who finished with 11 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .714, and by Gracie Darville, who had 10. got 17 digs from Kellee Craig to lead them defensively.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Trojans jumped out to an early lead, handily winning the first set 25-18. Virginia State never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 13-12 in a set that had just one lead change before the Trojans took over the lead.
SET 2 | After their win in the first set, Virginia State put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-10 victory in set number two. The Trojans led from the opening point on in the set to earn the victory. Virginia State opened its biggest lead of the stanza, 15 points, to close out the set, collecting 17 kills while only notching two attack errors along the way. The Trojans hit .577 over the course of a set where they racked up 17 kills. The Virginia State offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | Virginia State took set three to finish the match in a 3-0 sweep. The Trojans led from the opening point on in the set to secure a 25-19 victory. Virginia State opened up as much as a 10 point lead at 20-10 before closing out the set.
