5 different players score in Trojans 51-34 win over Bluefield State

ETTRICK, Virginia --Five different players scored touchdowns, led by three scores from Ri'Jon Hammond, as Virginia State rolled past Bluefield State 51-34 on Saturday afternoon inside Rogers Stadium.

The Trojans improved to 5-3 on the year and 3-2 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association play, while the Big Blues fell to 3-5 and 2-3.

Hammond totaled 135 yards to lead the Trojans' ground attack and added two touchdowns in the game, picking up 9.6 yards per carry along the way. Hammond also tacked on 20 receiving yards and one touchdown. Baron Davis also tacked on 43 yards and one touchdown on the ground, picking up 4.3 yards per carry.

Malik Hunter reeled in seven catches for 143 yards and one score. Vincent Ordenes got in on the action in the passing game as well, hauling in three balls for 57 yards.

Quedrion Miles showed out for the Virginia State defense, recording five tackles and one interception.

Virginia State also had an outstanding day offensively, racking up 516 total yards, 238 on the ground and 278 through the air, while averaging 8.1 yards per play. Virginia State converted on 58.3 percent of third-down attempts on the day.

Virginia State's defense was tough against the run, limiting Bluefield State to just 79 yards on the ground.

Virginia State held onto their lead despite allowing six Big Blues points before scoring for a final time with 4:52 remaining in the fourth quarter, bringing their lead to 51-34. Neither team scored again in the game.
