Trojans allow only 14 points in victory over Lincoln (PA)

ETTRICK, Virginia --Virginia State's defense held the Lincoln (PA) offense to only 14 points and the Trojans ran away with a 35-14 win at home Saturday afternoon.

The Trojans improved to 6-3 on the year and 4-2 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association play, while the Lions fell to 0-9 and 0-7.

Virginia State University secures is fourth winning season under Head Football Coach Dr.  Henry Frazier III. This is the first time since 1994 through 1997 that a head coach at VSU has had four consecutive winning seasons, since the great Hall of Famer Lou Anderson.

Rahsaan Matthews Jr. led Virginia State's passing attack with 272 yards through the air, tossing four touchdowns and one interception. The signal caller also added 67 yards on the ground.

To go along with Matthews Jr.'s performance, Ri'Jon Hammond paced the Trojans rushing attack by accumulating 45 yards and one touchdown over the course of the game, averaging 5 yards per carry. Hammond also tacked on 36 receiving yards.

Vincent Ordenes reeled in eight catches for 81 yards and one score. Jaylen Pretlow got in on the action in the passing game as well, hauling in five balls for 80 yards and three touchdowns.

Quedrion Miles led the Virginia State defensive effort, collecting four tackles and one interception. Kofi Acheampong added six tackles, 0.5 TFL, and one recovered fumble and Mustapha Coly had three tackles, 1.0 TFL, one sack, and one forced fumble in the win.

Both Virginia State and Lincoln (PA) forced two turnovers in Saturday's contest, with Virginia State turning those takeaways into seven points. Virginia State converted on 50 percent of third-down attempts on the day.

Defensively, Virginia State held up fairly well against the Lincoln (PA) passing attack, holding the Lions to 199 yards through the air.

How It Happened

After falling behind 7-0, Virginia State responded with a touchdown with 5:08 left in the second quarter to tie the game at 7-7.The Trojans proceeded to bust up the 7-7 tie with a two-yard touchdown reception from to Ordenes, making the score 14-7.

Virginia State kept Lincoln (PA) off the scoreboard and extended its lead to 21-7 with 11:33 left in the third quarter.The Trojans continued to extend their lead after Lincoln (PA) closed the gap to 21-14, scoring again to go ahead 28-14.

Virginia State continued to extend its lead, scoring again with 10:23 left in the fourth quarter to go on top 35-14. Neither team scored again in the game.
