Durham, N.C. (Oct. 22, 2025) – Midfielder Morgan Parris scored both goals for the Virginia State University women's soccer team as the Trojans earned a 2-2 draw on the road against Shaw University Wednesday evening at Durham County Memorial Stadium.
Parris opened the scoring in the 11th minute, calmly converting a penalty kick to give VSU the early advantage. The Trojans held firm throughout the first half, led by an impressive defensive effort from Aureila Williams, Gabrielle Franklin, and goalkeeper Tianna Roberts, who collected six first-half saves to preserve the 1-0 lead at the break.
Shaw equalized shortly after halftime on a strike from Lorena Gonzalez and later pulled ahead 2-1 in the 60th minute when Abigail Harrison found the net off a pair of assists.
Despite the momentum swinging in favor of the Bears, VSU continued to press forward. With less than two minutes remaining, Parris came through again, finishing a late opportunity in the 88th minute to secure the hard-fought draw for the Trojans.
Roberts finished with seven total saves while facing 13 Shaw shots. Offensively, VSU recorded four shots—three of them on target—with Emma Brown adding one of those chances early in the match.
The result moves Virginia State to 2-8-1 on the season, while Shaw stands at 3-4-3. The Trojans will return to action on Saturday October 25 as they travel to Regent Univeirsty for a 1 p.m. start.
