Trojans earn 3-0 sweep against Elizabeth City State

ELIZABETH CITY, NC --The Virginia State volleyball team needed only three sets (25-17, 25-15, 25-17) to knock off the Elizabeth City State Vikings Monday on the road at R L Vaughan Center.

The conference win improved Virginia State's record to 7-8 overall and 6-1 in CIAA play.

Gracie Darville finished with eight kills on the day to lead the Trojans attack. got seven digs from Darville to lead them defensively.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Trojans grabbed control of the set-one lead at 3-2 and never looked back to win 25-17. Virginia State opened up its biggest lead, eight points, to finish off the set. Virginia State also supplemented their offense with four aces in the opening set.

SET 2 | After their win in the first set, Virginia State put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-15 victory in set number two. The Trojans led from the first point on in the set to secure the victory. Virginia State opened up as much as a 10 point lead at 24-14 before closing out the set. The Virginia State offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.

SET 3 | Virginia State took set three to sweep the match. The Trojans won the set 25-17. Virginia State took the lead for good at 14-13 in a set that had just one lead change before the Trojans took over in the second half of the stanza. Virginia State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Elizabeth City State attacks in the stanza and capitalizing on 10 Elizabeth City State attacking errors on the way to victory.
