Livingstone Struggles as Virginia State Wins with Balanced Attack

Ettrick, VA
- Virginia State secured a comfortable 86-63 victory over Livingstone, powered by a combination of efficient shooting, strong defense, and explosive bench contributions. Despite a valiant effort from Livingstone, Virginia State's well-rounded team performance proved too much to overcome.

Virginia State showcased its offensive prowess with a balanced scoring attack. Clint Wright Jr. led the charge, scoring 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including 6 three-pointers. His sharp shooting from beyond the arc helped Virginia State build a lead, particularly in the second half. Jacob Cooper also made significant contributions, scoring 9 points and dishing out 8 assists, while Jayson Harris and Daryl Mackey Jr. both added 7 points each.

The team's shooting efficiency was impressive, finishing 47.6% from the field (30-63) and 50% from three-point range (9-18). Their free throw shooting was solid as well, connecting on 17 of 25 attempts (68%). Additionally, Virginia State dominated in the paint, scoring 36 points inside, and capitalized on second-chance opportunities with 15 second-chance points.

Livingstone fought hard but struggled with shooting efficiency throughout the game. The team finished with just 31.3% shooting from the field (21-67) and only 25% from beyond the arc (6-24). Despite these difficulties, James Nipper led Livingstone with 10 points, while Trey Minard contributed 11 points off the bench. Jeremiah Mobley added 9 points, and Jemez Herd chipped in with 6 points and 3 rebounds.

Livingstone also struggled at the free-throw line, making 15 of 22 attempts (68.2%). Although they were able to score 11 second-chance points and 13 points off turnovers, they couldn't keep pace with Virginia State's superior shooting and fast break points.

In the end, Virginia State's superior shooting, rebounding, and bench depth led them to a decisive 86-63 victory over Livingstone. Despite some bright spots from Livingstone's bench and individual performances, the team's shooting inefficiency and struggles with Virginia State's fast break and second-chance points made it difficult to keep up.

With this win, Virginia State improves its standing and continues to show its potential as a formidable contender. For Livingstone, the game serves as a reminder of the importance of shooting consistency and efficient offensive execution moving forward in the season.
