Your Virginia State men's basketball team (11-4) takes on the Virginia Union Panthers (7-8) in the Freedom Classic. Union scores the first two baskets of the game before VSU makes its first three-pointers scored by Clint Wright Jr. A monster block gives the Trojans possession and they score on the other end to make it a 7-8 game, the Panthers lead by one. A made layup by Jayson Harris puts the Trojans up by one. Another Clint Wright Jr. makes from three pushes the lead to four. The following possession, VSU's Daryl Mackey Jr., drains a consecutive three forcing the first time out of the game. A Clint Wright Jr. swipe and an easy layup by Dajour Rucker swell the Trojan's lead to ten. Clint Wright Jr. sinks another three-pointer making Virginia State's lead 15 with a little over six minutes left in the first half of the game. After a Jaedan Jefferson 3-point make union goes on to score two consecutive buckets forcing a timeout with under four minutes left in the half. Union's Bobby Gardener's 3-pointer makes it a 10-point game to end the first half the score is 39-29.  

Tim Uzochuwku starts the Trojans off by scoring a layup to open the second half. Tenacity on the boards gets Daryl Mackey Jr. a putback dunk, the lead is up to 14. The Panthers'  Daylon Mitchell swishes a three and cuts the lead to seven. A lay-up out of the timeout by Kendall Bynum puts the Trojans up by nine. Back-to-back three points from Union's Dalyaun Mitchell have VSU's lead down to four. Another Dalyaun Mitchell bucket cuts VSU's lead down to just two points. A timely tip-in by Tim Uzochuwku snaps a scoring drought for the Trojans and puts them back up by four. After a scrambly possession which ends in a shot clock violation for the Trojans a timeout is called Their lead is just three points, it's a 58-55 game with a little over seven minutes to go. Union's Jonathan King has a chance to go to the and tie it and he does, the score is tied at 58. A dunk from Davian Coleman put the Trojans ahead but Union knots it up again on a made layup. Daryl Mackey Jr. makes another big three to put the Trojans up by three with around five minutes to go in the game. Dajour Rucker makes a three-pointer coming out of the timeout with under two minutes to play, putting the Trojans up by six. Jacob Cooper gets crafty with his dribble moves to escape pressure and finds Jayson Harris for the easy layup with just over a minute left in regulation. Dajour Rucker knocks down two clutch free throws with under a minute to go putting the Trojans ahead by four. It's a two-point game with 10 seconds left in the game. The Trojans can cleanly inbound the basketball and have a chance to grow the lead Clint Wright Jr. misses the free throw but grabs an important rebound and gets his redemption by sinking his next two.
