VSU Comeback Efforts Thwarted by E&H Defense
Emory, VA. – The Virginia State Women's Soccer and the Wasp of Emory & Henry on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Fred Selfe Stadium.
The match began with an electric atmosphere as both teams sought to establish early dominance. Just under a minute into the game, Stavis found the net, assisted by Karlijn Keuters, setting the tone for the remainder of the match.
Despite their early struggles, the Trojans fought back with several shot attempts of their own, including a shot by VSU
Morgan Parris, bottom left, saved by Adriana, Rehg. Both teams exchanged fouls and corner kicks throughout the half, maintaining a competitive atmosphere.
The second half saw VSU pushing hard for an equalizer, but E&H's defense held strong. The Trojans made several substitutions to inject fresh energy into their attack, yet they found difficulties in converting their opportunities into goals.
E&H maintained their composure, effectively managing the clock and stifling VSU's attempts to penetrate their defensive line. Rehg continued to shine, making pivotal saves that preserved her team's lead. Despite VSU's attempts to push back, including a shot from
Carra Fitzgerald that was saved by E&H's Ava Puskas, the Trojans could not find a way past the Wasps' solid backline.
