Ettrick, Va (Apr. 8, 2024)- The Virginia State University women's lacrosse team defeated Emory & Henry 18-7 to cap off their inaugural season and stay undefeated at home for the season.
VSU scored the first six goals, two by Adrien Wise and one for each Adrianna Davis, Kayla Caroll-Williams, Grace Hall and Jhalin Hooks. Both teams added one more before the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was more competitive as the Jackets scored four goals and the Trojans net five goals to have a 12-5 halftime score.
Then to open the third quarter Sarai Reyes-Roman, Carroll-Williams and Grace Hall scored three straight goals to get to a running clock for the first time in program history. E&H would score the final two goals of the third quarter. The highlight of the three goal fourth quarter for VSU was Noel Johnson-Montoya scored her first career goal and the final goal of the season for the Trojans to make it 18-7.
As a team, Virginia State was almost perfect in clears at 29-30, had 52 shots and 37 ground balls to dominate the stat sheet. Carroll-Williams and Davis both had a game high six ground balls. For the season Wise and Reyes-Roman had a team high of 23 points. Wise was the goal leader at 20 and Reyes-Roman was the assist leader with 7.
