Ettrick, Va. (Apr. 7, 2024)- The Virginia State University softball team remained undefeated in conference play (15-2 overall, 10-0) after sweeping Bowie State University (11-20, 5-3) 5-4 in both games of the double header. Game one was highlighted by a Mylia Knight walk off single in the bottom of the seventh. 
GAME 1 VSU 5 BOWIE 4 
	- 
	Neither team managed much in the first inning with Hailey Darrington getting to third base for the Trojans but was stranded there.  
- 
	In the second inning, the Bulldogs scored after a one-out tripled followed by a single up the middle. VSU answered with two in the bottom half. Shamya Hankins got on via the error then a double by Sky Corum brought her around. Corum would score on a pass ball later in the inning  
- 
	Both teams put up one in the third inning and would not do anything in the fourth. Kara Green sat down the side in the top of the fifth and Darrington and Alaijah Pratt hit back-to-back singles in the Trojans half. A two out pass ball put both into scoring position and Hankins singled to bring home a run

	Bowie State would add one in the sixth inning and one in the seventh after back-to-back singles and an error to tie the game  
- 
	Darrington started off the bottom of the seventh with a walk, Pratt would reach on the fielder's choice, Jaya Diggs-Hagwood would ground out, but Pratt managed to get to second base. Then Knight would have a lengthy at bat that would end with her hitting a double to left field for the walk off win

	Green pitched the full seven innings and picked up her fifth win of the year  
GAME 2 VSU 5 BOWIE 4 
	- 
	The Bulldogs managed to get a runner on second but couldn't bring her in to score  
- 
	Darrington started the bottom half of the inning with a walk and the Knight hit a two out single to right field to score Darrington  
- 
	Bowie State managed to tie the game in the second and held the Trojans to just a hit in their half of the inning  
- 
	The bottom of the fourth Knight hit a single to the pitcher then Skye Corum had a one out walk to get runners on first and second. Alani Horton then hit a single to load the bases. Maisie Spivey then walked and Darrington hit a bunt single to score another to make it 3-1

	However, the Bulldogs managed to get those two runs back in the fifth inning. In the Trojans half Diggs-Hagwood hit a double and the Hankins hit a single to score her

	In the sixth a RBI grounder by Bowie State retied the game but the Trojans managed to load the bases and Pratt managed to help herself out by hitting her own RBI gounder to give VSU a 5-4 advantage  
- 
	Pratt managed to shut down the Bulldogs offense in the top of the seventh to help VSU escape with a close win  
The Trojans will play their last home games of the season on Friday April 12 at 1 pm for a double header against Bluefield State.
